Indonesian Troops in Lebanon Enter Bunkers, DPR Member: This is a Form of Risk Mitigation
Jakarta - Deputy Chairman of Commission I of the House of Representatives, Dave Laksono, stated that the order from TNI Commander General Agus Subiyanto for troops carrying out peacekeeping missions in Lebanon to take shelter in bunkers was the right decision. According to him, this demonstrates that Indonesia continues to respect the UN mandate while mitigating risks to the lives of the TNI personnel on duty. “The decision to take shelter in bunkers is the correct tactical step, as a form of risk mitigation while still respecting the mandate given by the United Nations (UN),” Dave told Kompas.com on Sunday (5/4/2026). This step, according to Dave, reinforces that the safety of personnel is placed as the top priority, while ensuring that the peacekeeping mandate is carried out with full responsibility and discipline. “It must be understood that the peacekeeping mission in Lebanon carries high risks. Every field policy must be oriented towards maximum protection of the troops, without neglecting Indonesia’s commitment to maintaining regional stability,” he added. TNI Commander General Agus Subiyanto ordered TNI troops involved in the peacekeeping mission in Lebanon to remain inside the bunkers and halt all activities outside the base. The order was conveyed by Agus during a video call with the Commander of Task Force Yonmek XXIII-S/UNIFIL in Lebanon on Friday (3/4/2026). “Maintain the morale of the troops there, continue to carry out internal security, enter the bunkers and there should be no activities going out,” Agus said, quoted from his personal Instagram account on Saturday (4/4/2026). “Ready, Commander,” replied the Task Force Commander. Agus also emphasised the importance of maintaining the spirit of the troops amid the heating situation. “And maintain the morale of the troops so they remain spirited. Thank you,” he said.
