Indonesian Religious Leaders and Figures Call for End to US-Iran War Ahead of 2026 Hajj
A number of Indonesian figures and religious scholars gathered at the residence of the Saudi Arabian Ambassador to Indonesia, HE Faisal Abdullah Amody. They called for peace ahead of the 2026 Hajj pilgrimage.
This was conveyed by the figures and ulama at the halalbihalal and silaturahmi event hosted by Ambassador Faisal with leaders, ulama, heads of Islamic organisations, and pesantren principals at his home in Jakarta on Wednesday (15/4/2026). Attendees included the MPR RI Chairman to pesantren leaders.
MPR RI Chairman Ahmad Muzani responded to the failure of peace negotiations between Iran and the United States and Israel, held in Pakistan a few days ago, as a negative development. Muzani called for the current two-week temporary ceasefire between Iran and the US-Israel to become a permanent one.
Muzani also appreciated King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman for their wise and prudent handling of the ongoing war in the Middle East.
The same sentiment was expressed by PWNU Jatim Chairman KH Abdul Hakim Mahfudz. He stated that the Hajj season is a highly sacred, noble, and grand time for Muslims, taking place in the two holy lands in Saudi Arabia.
“All countries must ensure Saudi Arabia remains safe and free from any disturbances, especially those that could impact the 2026 Hajj pilgrimage,” said the Tebuireng Pesantren caregiver, affectionately known as Gus Kikin.
“Considering Muslims will soon enter the Hajj season, we hope the war can end immediately. We urge all parties involved in the war to stop it right away,” Kiai Kikin emphasised.
In this meeting, the ulama, heads of Islamic organisations, and pesantren leaders called on all parties to respect the upcoming Hajj process and the sovereignty of every country, particularly Saudi Arabia.
The figures from various elements and regions also added that war only brings harm to all parties, with its impacts damaging everyone, as evidenced by the energy crisis, economic issues, civilisation, and humanitarian concerns.
Meanwhile, PKS President Almuzammil Yusuf stated that attacking Saudi Arabia, especially Mecca and Medina, or disrupting Saudi Arabia in a way that affects the Hajj procession, is a serious crime and an enmity against the entire Muslim ummah.
Almuzzammil Yusuf called on Indonesia and OIC countries to lead and urge the world to guarantee Saudi Arabia’s security as the Hajj approaches.
Furthermore, MPR RI Deputy Chairman Hidayat Nur Wahid (HNW) specifically urged the United States-Israel and Iran to stop the war, as it affects the entire world. He also condemned military attacks targeting public or non-military facilities in both Iran and Saudi Arabia, as these violate international law.
“Therefore, I have long opposed military strikes on non-military targets or public facilities, whether against Iran such as schools or hospitals, or against Saudi Arabia targeting Aramco and the like. Iran should focus its counterattacks on Israel alone,” said HNW.
At this moment, the ulama and figures agreed to continue supporting Saudi Arabia in serving Haramain asySyarifain, and hoped Saudi Arabia would play a more effective role in saving and freeing Masjid al-Aqsa from Israeli control, which would effectively foster unity among the global Muslim ummah.
The attending figures also expressed appreciation to Saudi Arabia for perfectly safeguarding the haramain or two holy sites.
