Throughout last year until April this year, Indonesian police successfully uncovered a total of 665 cases of misuse of subsidised fuel (BBM) and subsidised cylinder gas (LPG). National Police Headquarters stated that the total state financial losses due to the misuse of BBM and LPG reached Rp1.2 trillion in 2025 and 2026. “The crime of misusing subsidised BBM and LPG has caused potential state financial leakages of Rp1,266,160,963,200,” said Deputy Head of Bareskrim Polri Inspector General Nunung Syaifudin during a press conference in Jakarta on Tuesday (7/4). Nunung said the loss figure was known from the results of actions against the misuse of BBM and LPG carried out by Bareskrim Polri and regional police across Indonesia during 2025 and 2026. He detailed that the state losses due to misuse of subsidised BBM amounted to Rp516,812,530,200 (Rp516.8 billion), while for subsidised LPG it was Rp749,294,400,000 (Rp749.2 billion). “This is a significant figure that should have been used for subsidies on these subsidised goods to benefit or be received by the underprivileged community but was misused. That is what we can secure to anticipate state financial leakages,” he stated. On the same occasion, Director of Specific Crimes at Bareskrim Polri Brigadier General Moh Irhamni mentioned that in 2025 there were 568 cases uncovered with a total of 583 suspects. Throughout 2025, he said, investigators successfully seized a total of 1.1 million litres of diesel fuel and 127,000 litres of pertalite. Meanwhile, the subsidised 3 kg LPG seized reached 17,500 cylinders. “Then 5.5 kg gas amounted to 516 cylinders. 12 kg gas seizures totalled 4,945 cylinders. Then 50 kg gas amounted to 422 cylinders,” he explained. Next, throughout 2026, Irhamni stated that they successfully uncovered a total of 97 cases with the number of suspects arrested reaching 89 perpetrators. The details of evidence seized in this period include 112,663 litres of diesel, 7,096 units of 3 kg gas, 425 units of 5.5 kg gas. Then 3,113 units of 12 kg gas, 315 units of 50 kg gas. Additionally, vehicles used as tools for the crime, both four-wheeled and six-wheeled, totalled 79 units. “Of course, having only been running for about four months, the Directorate of Specific Crimes and its affiliates continue to strive hard to protect the public and enforce the law against the misuse of BBM and LPG by irresponsible individuals,” Irhamni remarked.
