JAKARTA — The Indonesian National Police (Polri) has targeted the cultivation of one million hectares of maize in 2026 to supply domestic requirements for livestock feed and energy.

The information was conveyed by the Assistant to the National Police Chief for Human Resources, Inspector General Anwar, following a meeting with the Minister of Agriculture Andi Amran Sulaiman.

“Hopefully the one million hectares target is achieved, and besides being used for livestock feed, it can also be utilised for energy,” Anwar stated at the Ministry of Agriculture office in Jakarta on Wednesday, 11 March 2026.

In 2025, Polri successfully cultivated maize across 650,000 hectares of land.

According to Anwar, this achievement fell short of the original one million hectare target set for 2025.

“When we previously targeted one million hectares of maize cultivation, we only managed to plant 650,000 hectares. Now we are maximising efforts, aiming for even more than one million,” Anwar said.

Consequently, Polri sought a meeting with Amran to request support for optimising maize cultivation efforts.

The police delegation communicated to Amran their requirements across the entire agricultural supply chain, including the modernisation of farming equipment and infrastructure.

“We have already communicated with the Minister regarding equipment modernisation, and the Minister is implementing this directly, determining how many tractors are needed, how many planting implements are required, and so on. The Minister is executing this directly,” Anwar explained.

According to Amran, maize production has demonstrated a positive trend with production increases reaching one million tonnes.

As a result of this maize self-sufficiency achievement, Amran stated that Indonesia no longer imports maize for livestock feed and has reduced maize imports for industrial purposes.

“For industrial use, imports have declined from 1.4 million tonnes to 800,000 tonnes. This represents a reduction of 800,000 tonnes in imports, which is an extraordinary achievement and we are grateful for it,” Amran said.
