Indonesian Police Chief says President intends to be a mediator in the Middle East conflict
Bandung City (ANTARA) - Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo has stressed that President Prabowo Subianto is pursuing an independent and active foreign policy to play a mediation role in the conflict in the Middle East. The President is attempting to act as part of a non-aligned country by implementing an independent and active foreign policy to help mediate ongoing events and to support Palestine becoming a sovereign state, he said during a Ramadhan greetings event in Bandung on Wednesday. According to him, the escalation of the conflict is not only around Gaza but has spread to affect several other areas in the Middle East. The Police Chief assessed that these developments are triggering an escalation that is growing larger and has implications for global and domestic situations. “We are facing a situation that is not good. Global escalation affects the very foundations of life, at global, regional, and domestic levels,” he said. He said that after clashes between Iran, the United States, and Israel, world oil prices have risen. The oil distribution routes passing through the Strait of Hormuz have also been affected, triggering shocks in various countries, including those dependent on energy imports. “Oil trade that passes through the Strait of Hormuz is affected, which also causes shocks, including for countries that rely on imported oil,” he added. He stressed that the government continues to take various diplomatic steps so that the conflict does not spread further and can end soon. Listyo added that the President is intensively engaging in discussions with several countries in the Asian and Middle Eastern region to seek solutions so that the heated global escalation can be brought under control soon. “We all certainly want this global issue to be resolved soon. The government is pursuing measures so that the escalation does not worsen and does not disrupt national objectives,” said the Police Chief.
