Indonesian pilgrims stranded in Jordan, Indonesian Embassy in Amman explains
An Indonesian religious-tour group has been stranded in Amman, Jordan, as tensions in the Middle East escalate due to the war between Israel and the United States against Iran. The Indonesian Embassy in Amman (KBRI Amman) has issued a statement explaining the latest condition of the group of Indonesian pilgrims.
In a video obtained, the group’s accompanying leader said they had been stranded in Jordan since Sunday, 1 March. The flight carrying 24 Indonesians back to the homeland was cancelled by the airline due to unsafe conditions.
“We are currently in Jordan, in the city of Amman, since last Sunday, and to this day we are confused about how we can return to Indonesia because our flight has been cancelled and to date we have not found a flight that can take us home,” the accompanying group leader said in the video, as seen on Thursday 5 March 2026.
KBRI Amman then explained the current condition of the Indonesian pilgrims. The Embassy had been in contact with the group since Monday 2 March. The embassy had facilitated an alternative flight on Tuesday 3 March. However, the group later told the Embassy that their Emirates flight had been cancelled and they reported difficulty obtaining the recommended alternative options. They asked the Indonesian government to evacuate them and asked for information on charter planes available in Jordan, the embassy said in a statement released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Kemlu).
The Embassy said there are currently no evacuation plans for the Indonesians stranded in Amman. The Embassy continues to monitor the health status of the Indonesians stranded and to seek other alternatives for their repatriation. The Embassy in Amman said it would be responsible for meeting the group’s needs while they remain in Jordan. It is seeking information on charter aircraft to repatriate the group back to Indonesia.
“To date, records show that 27 Indonesian spiritual tourists from different groups have left Jordan on alternative flights via Cairo,” the Embassy in Amman said.
