Indonesian Pilgrims Involved in Accident During Tour, Legislator Calls for Stricter Oversight of Non-Hajj Activities
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Member of the DPR RI Commission VIII, Dini Rahmania, has called for tighter supervision of activities outside the official 2026 hajj itinerary, following an accident involving a group of Indonesian pilgrims during a city tour.
“I am deeply saddened and seriously concerned about the accident that befell the pilgrim group in activities outside the official hajj organisation for 2026,” Dini told Kompas.com on Tuesday (29/4/2026).
“Pilgrim safety must remain the priority in every activity, whether facilitated by the government or additional activities,” she added.
According to Dini, this incident should serve as a reminder for all parties to increase caution and oversight to ensure that every pilgrim activity remains safe.
The Nasdem politician emphasised that the government has actually facilitated official pilgrimage activities for pilgrims, such as visits to Masjid Quba, Masjid Qiblatain, and the Jabal Uhud area.
However, outside of that agenda, additional activities like city tours are still frequently joined by pilgrims.
Therefore, their implementation must be managed responsibly by Hajj Worship Guidance Groups (KBIH).
“Beyond that, additional activities are certainly part of the pilgrims’ needs, but their implementation needs to be managed with full responsibility by the organisers, in this case KBIH, especially in ensuring and being accountable for aspects of security, safety, transportation worthiness, and pilgrim accompaniment,” she concluded.
Acting Director of Protection for Indonesian Citizens at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs RI, Heni Hamidah, stated that the incident involved two buses, namely the JHI SUB-2 Cluster bus and the JHI JKS-1 Cluster bus, during the return journey from the city tour activity.
“The accident involved the JHI SUB-2 Cluster bus and the JHI JKS-1 Cluster bus during the return journey from the Jabal Magnet city tour activity,” said Heni in her statement on Wednesday (29/4/2026).
She assured that there were no fatalities in the incident.
However, there were 10 people who sustained injuries, consisting of seven pilgrims from the JKS-1 cluster and three from the SUB-2 cluster.
According to Heni, pilgrims from the JKS-1 cluster suffered minor injuries and have received treatment from the medical team before returning to the Andalus Golden Hotel.
