The Indonesian Navy (TNI AL), through Komando Armada (Koarmada) I, has clarified the death of Kelasi Dua (KLD) Ghofirul Kasyfi (22) on the Republic of Indonesia Warship (KRI) dr. Radjiman Wedyodiningrat on 26 April 2026.

“First and foremost, the ranks of the TNI AL, especially the extended family of Koarmada I, extend our deepest condolences for the passing of the deceased. Our best prayers accompany the deceased and the family left behind,” said the Head of Information Service (Kadispen) of Koarmada I, Colonel Laut (P) Ary Mahayasa, in an official statement in Tanjungpinang, Kepri, on Thursday.

Colonel Ary also addressed reports regarding physical irregularities on Ghofirul Kasyfi’s body.

He stated that based on the official visum et repertum issued by the Central Naval Hospital (RSPAL) dr. Mintohardjo in Jakarta dated 26 April 2026, no bruises from blunt force trauma were found on the deceased’s body, and no bleeding was detected in the groin area as had been circulated.

The examination was attended by the family, and documentation including photos and videos was conducted.

The wound on the neck was a circular compression injury accompanied by epidermal peeling, with patterns and characteristics medically identical to those of a hanging wound.

“Thus, the medical examination concludes that the cause of death was purely due to suicide by hanging, not due to any act of violence,” explained the Kadispen of Koarmada I.

The Kadispen further stated that Ghofirul’s body was buried in his hometown in a military ceremony on 27 April 2026 at the Kemayoran Public Cemetery (TPU) in Bangkalan, East Java.

Colonel Ary also confirmed that the family, represented by the deceased’s mother, had consciously refused an autopsy, as documented in an official statement dated 30 April 2026.

Regarding the bruises visible on the body just before burial, he explained that this was livor mortis, a definitive sign of death caused by the cessation of blood circulation, resulting in red blood cells settling in the lowest parts of the body due to gravity.

The Kadispen also addressed the visit by Navy personnel to Ghofirul’s home, noting that during personnel checks on the ship, he was absent several times, prompting the KRI to request assistance from Lanal Batuporon to visit the residence and inquire about his whereabouts.
