Indonesian Navy Claims to Have Saved Rp 14.8 Trillion in Potential State Losses Through Maritime Operations
JAKARTA - Commander of the Indonesian Fleet Command, Rear Admiral TNI Denih Hendrata, claims that the Indonesian Navy has saved potential state losses amounting to Rp 14.8 trillion from 2025 through to May 2026.
Denih stated that these potential state losses were saved through various maritime security operations and law enforcement efforts conducted by the Indonesian Navy.
“Throughout 2025, the Indonesian Navy, in this case the Fleet Command RI and its subordinates, succeeded in foiling various smuggling and maritime crimes with a total economic value to the state that was saved reaching more than Rp 14.7 trillion,” said Denih at the Fleet Command RI Headquarters, Gunung Sahari, Kemayoran, Central Jakarta, on Tuesday (12/5/2026).
The various potential threats included smuggling of illegal goods, narcotics, illegal fishing, illegal mining, human trafficking, fuel smuggling, and piracy.
Meanwhile, from January to May 2026, the Indonesian Navy recorded at least 26 cases of illegal activities that were successfully foiled, with potential state losses reaching Rp 112.9 billion.
“In May 2026, the Indonesian Navy succeeded in foiling six illegal activities with potential state losses saved amounting to Rp 14.9 billion,” he explained.
Evidence seized included 14.4 million lobster larvae, 278,000 illegal cigarettes, and 252.4 litres of traditional alcoholic beverages such as moke and sopi.
In addition to sea operations, the Indonesian Navy through the Naval Aviation Centre also reportedly foiled four illegal activities through air operations.
From those operations, the potential state losses claimed to have been prevented reached Rp 2.6 billion.
