Indonesian National Police to Send Representatives to Saudi Arabia to Ensure Smooth Hajj Pilgrimage for Indonesian Worshippers
The step was discussed during an audience between Deputy Chief of Police Komjen Dedi Prasetyo and Deputy Minister of Hajj and Umrah of the Republic of Indonesia, Dahnil Anzar Simanjuntak, at the National Police Criminal Investigation Agency headquarters on Thursday (30/4). This meeting serves to strengthen cross-sectoral synergy while expanding Polri’s role to the territory of Saudi Arabia, the centre for Hajj pilgrimage implementation.
Deputy Minister Dahnil Anzar stated that the handling of illegal Hajj cases is increasingly developing, including those involving Indonesian citizens abroad. According to him, the involvement of Indonesian law enforcement agencies is needed to support coordination with local authorities.
“We view the need for strengthening Polri’s technical role in Saudi Arabia, so that communication and case handling can run more effectively, especially in protecting pilgrims from fraud practices and legal violations,” Dahnil said in his statement on Thursday (30/4/2026).
He revealed that Saudi authorities have secured three Indonesian citizens suspected of involvement in the forgery and distribution of illegal Hajj documents. The case underscores the importance of the state’s presence in providing legal assistance and protection to Indonesians facing the law abroad.
The government is also preparing to involve Polri elements more formally in the structure of the Amirul Hajj for upcoming Hajj arrangements. This year, Deputy Chief of Police Komjen Dedi Prasetyo is planned to accompany the Indonesian Amirul Hajj in Saudi Arabia.
Komjen Dedi said this is done to strengthen the aspects of security and safety for pilgrims. Komjen Dedi emphasised that Polri is ready to strengthen operational support and international coordination.
“Polri is ready to fully support government steps, including strengthening cooperation with Saudi security authorities, both in prevention efforts and law enforcement against violations that harm Indonesian pilgrims,” said Komjen Dedi.
He added that the presence of Polri members in Saudi Arabia is important to ensure comprehensive protection for pilgrims, from the departure process to the implementation of worship in the Holy Land. In addition, the Task Force for Handling Illegal Hajj and Umrah continues to be strengthened to suppress illegal Hajj organisation practices domestically.
Komjen Dedi affirmed Polri’s commitment to continue being present in protecting the public through strengthened national and international cooperation, as part of the state’s efforts to provide the best services and protection to the community.
