The Indonesian National Police (Polri) has launched a Cheap Food Movement (GPM) simultaneously across all regions of Indonesia to maintain stable food supply and prices ahead of Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijriah. The programme represents Polri’s commitment to serving communities whilst providing tangible support for the national food security programme initiated by the government.

In West Java, the West Java Regional Police Command (Polda Jabar) together with the Bandung Metropolitan Police (Polrestabes Bandung) provided 200 tonnes of stabilisation rice for food supply and price stability (SPHP) in activities centred in Bandung. Brigadier Wadi Sabani, Director of Community Development (Binmas) at Polda Jabar, stated that the activity was carried out simultaneously by all district police commands within the Polda Jabar jurisdiction.

“Today, the West Java Regional Police together with the National Police Headquarters and all ranks throughout Indonesia are simultaneously implementing the cheap food movement,” Wadi said in Bandung on Friday.

During the activity, various essential food commodities were sold at prices below the Maximum Retail Price (HET). In addition to rice, the public could also obtain cooking oil, eggs, chicken, meat, and other basic necessities at affordable prices. Wadi explained that the programme represents Polri’s presence within communities and forms part of support for the Eight Work Programmes (Asta Cita) announced by President Prabowo Subianto.

“This activity is a collective effort to mitigate price increases for essential goods that often occur during Ramadan,” he added.

In Central Sulawesi, the Central Sulawesi Regional Police Command (Polda Sulteng) also organised the Cheap Food Movement by providing two tonnes of rice for the public. Brigadier Djoko Wienartono, Head of Public Relations at Polda Sulteng, explained that the activity held in the yard of the Central Sulawesi Regional Police Command headquarters in Palu also provided 250 kilogrammes of sugar at 17,000 rupiahs per kilogramme and 600 litres of MinyaKita brand cooking oil at 15,000 rupiahs per litre.

“Through this Cheap Food Movement, we hope the public can obtain basic necessities at more affordable prices whilst helping maintain stable food prices in the market,” Djoko said in Palu on Friday.

He emphasised that the activity represents Polri’s commitment to being present not only in maintaining security and order, but also in supporting national food security.
