Indonesian Ministers' Salaries That Prabowo Referenced in Salary Cut Discussion
JAKARTA — President Prabowo Subianto highlighted Pakistan’s approach of cutting ministerial salaries as part of its cost-containment measures during global turbulence.
Pakistan’s strategy includes anticipating potential conflict escalation between Iran, Israel and the United States in the Middle East. The government has implemented various austerity policies, including ministerial salary reductions and restrictions on the use of official vehicles.
“They have even reduced salaries for cabinet members and members of parliament,” Prabowo stated during a Full Cabinet Session on Friday, 13 March 2026.
The savings generated from these measures are then redirected to assist the most vulnerable segments of society.
Under current Indonesian regulations, ministerial salaries are governed by Government Regulation Number 60 of 2000, which outlines Financial/Administrative Rights for State Ministers and former State Ministers and their surviving spouses.
According to Article 2 of this regulation, a state minister receives a base salary of Rp 5,040,000 per month.
Position allowances for state ministers are specified under Presidential Decree Number 168 of 2000 concerning Position Allowances for Certain State Officials. According to Article 1, paragraph (2), letter e, a state minister receives position allowances totalling Rp 13,608,000 per month.
Combined, a minister receives total monthly compensation of Rp 18,648,000 in salary and allowances.
