Medan (ANTARA) — The Disaster Recovery Task Force of Military Regional Command I/Bukit Barisan has completed the construction of an Armco bridge in Angkola Sangkunur District, South Tapanuli Regency, North Sumatra, restoring local residents’ access following a disaster.

“Progress has reached 100 percent, and the bridge is now available for public use again,” said Military Regional Command I/Bukit Barisan Spokesperson Colonel Asrul Kurniawan Harahap in Medan on Sunday.

He said the repairs also involved personnel from the Military District Command 0212/South Tapanuli’s Sub-district Military Command 19/Siais Task Force, along with Engineer Battalion 1/BB, Territorial Infantry Battalion 901/SG, and Combat Engineer Unit 1/DD, supported by the active participation of local residents.

He said the cross-unit collaboration was aimed at accelerating the construction process to ensure timely completion following the disaster in the area.

“During the construction process, the task force cleared the area and prepared stone and sand materials on site,” he said.

He said Armco materials were installed as the bridge’s main structure, followed by concrete pouring to reinforce the construction. In addition, personnel installed stones and pillar foundations to ensure greater structural durability.

He said the bridge had previously been damaged by flood currents that struck the area, with the damage disrupting the connecting access between Alley 1 and Alley 2, hindering residents’ mobility and daily activities.

“The completion of these repairs is part of the Indonesian Army’s commitment to helping accelerate post-disaster infrastructure recovery,” he said.

Asrul hopes the bridge can be utilized optimally so that the community’s social and economic activities can resume smoothly.
