Indonesian Military Completes Armco Bridge in South Tapanuli Connecting Neighbourhoods
Medan (ANTARA) — The Natural Disaster Response Task Force of Kodam I/Bukit Barisan has completed repairs to an Armco bridge in Angkola Sangkunur sub-district, South Tapanuli Regency, North Sumatra, serving as a connector between neighbourhoods in the area.
"The bridge connects Neighbourhood II/Batu Rosak with Neighbourhood IV Huta Tonga and Neighbourhood V Dolok Sangkunur in Angkola Sangkunur sub-district," said Kodam I/BB spokesperson Colonel Inf Asrul Kurniawan Harahap in Medan on Wednesday.
Asrul said progress on the work had reached 100 per cent and the bridge can now once again be used by residents in those neighbourhoods.
He further explained that the bridge repairs were carried out by Indonesian Army personnel from Koramil 19/Siais under Kodim 0212/South Tapanuli, the Denzibang engineer unit, and Yonif TP 901, together with workers and the active participation of local residents.
"The bridge work involved dismantling the damaged sections, preparing materials, installing the main Armco structure, and reinforcing the foundations and support columns to ensure the construction is more robust and safe for long-term use," he said.
The spokesperson noted that the old bridge had previously suffered damage due to age, hampering residents' mobility and inter-neighbourhood economic activity.
He added that the completion of the Armco bridge repairs represents the Indonesian Army's commitment, through the ranks of Kodam I/Bukit Barisan, to assisting in the acceleration of infrastructure recovery and improving community welfare in affected areas.
"Local residents have welcomed the bridge repairs, so that community access has now returned to normal and daily activities can proceed smoothly," he said.
