The President's advocacy of the use of Bahasa Indonesia to
replace foreign words used for advertisements was widely
welcomed. However, I find the implementation of this worthwhile
policy confusing. Our teachers were unable to give satisfactory
answer to our queries.

The words in question include: regen, resor, bakeri, mal and
Holan, to replace the English words: regent, resort, bakery, mall
and Holland. Does dropping the final consonant and spelling
English words phonetically, pidgin-fashion, really make them into
correct Indonesian?

Could the Center for Development Growth of Indonesian Language
explain this phenomenon?
