JAKARTA – Golkar Party has urged the Indonesian government to play an active role in mobilising international forces to halt the war in the Middle East region, following attacks by Israel in cooperation with the United States (US) against Iran.

“Indonesia must play an active role, mobilise international forces, and promote conflict resolution through diplomatic channels. Peace is a shared interest of humanity,” said Golkar Party Secretary-General M. Sarmuji in a statement to Kompas.com on Monday (2 March 2026).

According to him, Golkar, as a party consistently supporting Indonesia’s independent and active foreign policy, is pressing the United Nations (UN) to take swift and concrete steps to halt the conflict.

Further, Sarmuji expressed disappointment and concern over the failure of negotiations between the United States and Iran, which resulted in military attacks by the US and Israel against Iran.

He stressed that this escalation of conflict demonstrates the fragility of commitment to diplomatic channels in resolving international disputes.

“Golkar Party regrets and expresses deep disappointment over the failure of negotiations and diplomacy that has resulted in outright war. This war clearly harms only the people. We call on both sides to exercise restraint and immediately cease the war,” Sarmuji stated firmly.

Golkar Party also conveyed deep condolences over casualties in the conflict.

“We express deep condolences over the death of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and his family as well as all other victims. Every life lost is a human tragedy that cannot be justified by any reason,” he said.

The Golkar Party Faction Leader in the Indonesian Parliament noted that the war between the United States and Israel against Iran is not a simple conflict, but rather a highly complex issue involving geopolitical, regional security, global economic aspects, and world energy stability.

For Sarmuji, war is not a solution. He stated that global stability, the safety of civilians, and world order must be the primary priority of all nations.

“This war is highly complex and multidimensional. Therefore, its resolution cannot be achieved through military force. The only way is to return to the negotiating table and resolve it through a diplomatic approach,” Sarmuji said.

It was previously reported that Iran was targeted by attacks from Israel and the US on Saturday (28 February 2026) local time.

Israel was the first to confirm that it had officially attacked Iran.

Shortly thereafter, US President Donald Trump officially announced that the United States was joining Israel in attacking Iran.

The war between Israel, America, and Iran was marked by missiles raining down on Tehran’s skies.

Iran immediately retaliated against attacks by Israel and the US by firing several missiles at locations associated with US military operations, including Al Udeid air base in Qatar, Al-Salem air base in Kuwait, Al-Dhafra air base in the United Arab Emirates, and the headquarters of the US Fifth Fleet in Bahrain.
