Jakarta, Kompas.com - The Indonesian furniture industry targets exports valued at US$6 billion, or around Rp101 trillion (exchange rate Rp16,905 per US$1), over the next five years.

Abdul Sobur, Chairman of the Indonesian Furniture and Handicraft Industry Association (HIMKI), notes that the national furniture industry will continue to grow and be able to increase its contribution in the international market.

“We are confident that global furniture markets will continue to improve in the future. Therefore, we reiterate our target to realise exports of US$6 billion,” Sobur said at the Indonesia International Furniture Expo (IFEX) 2026, quoted in a press release on Friday, 6 March 2026.

Although these two regions remain important markets, the Indonesian furniture industry is also seeking opportunities in other regions with potential, for example in the Middle East.

“In addition to key markets such as the United States and Europe, we are also encouraging our members to open opportunities in new markets such as the Middle East and Africa,” he said.

The Indonesian furniture and handicrafts industry itself continues to play an important role in the national economy.

Statistics Indonesia (BPS) data show that furniture exports contributed 12.2 percent to the handicrafts sub-sector.

On the other hand, the global furniture market is projected to continue growing in the coming years.

Allied Market Research data say that the world furniture market is expected to reach more than US$1,160 billion by 2034, up from about US$736 billion in 2023, with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of around 4.2 percent.

The government regards these projections as a major opportunity for Indonesia to increase furniture exports to global markets. This was stated by the Minister of Industry (Menperin), Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita.

He also highlighted Indonesia’s Manufacturing Value Added (MVA), which is recorded as the highest in the ASEAN region, at US$265.07 billion.

To drive growth in the furniture industry, the Ministry of Industry has prepared various forms of support for industry players, including facilitating the availability of raw materials, strengthening skilled human resources, increasing productivity and product quality, and developing markets and market research references.

In addition, the government encourages the creation of a conducive business climate and the development of furniture small and medium enterprise (IKM) industrial centers in various regions.

For information, HIMKI is hosting the Indonesia International Furniture Expo (IFEX) 2026, on Thursday at ICE, BSD.

IFEX is regarded as a platform to boost export value and affirm Indonesia’s furniture products’ position on the global stage. As the region’s largest B2B exhibition, IFEX offers numerous advantages for participants.

IFEX has long been known as a barometer of growth for the furniture and handicrafts industry, not only in Indonesia but also in the regional and global arenas.
