Indonesian Embassy Kuala Lumpur Strengthens Diplomatic Ties Through Media Iftar in Malaysia
We are not just neighbours; we share many similarities. Our languages are the same, our customs are the same, and there are many other things we have in common. So, it doesn’t feel foreign. Kuala Lumpur (ANTARA) - On Tuesday, 24 February 2026, the Indonesian Embassy in Kuala Lumpur held a Ramadhan iftar event with representatives from Malaysia’s leading media outlets, in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The event, which took place at a hotel in central Kuala Lumpur, was attended by the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Indonesia to Malaysia, Dato’ Mohammad Iman Hascarya, and a number of senior journalists from leading Malaysian media outlets. Upon arriving at the venue, Ambassador Iman warmly greeted each of the Malaysian media representatives who had arrived earlier. He then exchanged business cards and introduced himself to the local journalists present. This Ramadhan iftar also served as an opportunity for Ambassador Iman to get to know the media in Malaysia, as he had only been serving as ambassador in Malaysia for about a month. According to ANTARA’s observation at the scene, approximately a dozen representatives from local Malaysian media outlets attended the event, which was also attended by attachés, the socio-cultural officer, and staff from the Indonesian Embassy in Kuala Lumpur, amidst the busy working day in Malaysia. Among the local Malaysian media representatives present were BERNAMA, Malaysia Kini, Berita Harian, Free Malaysia Today, and New Straits Times. The media representatives introduced themselves one by one to Ambassador Iman, explaining the issues related to Indonesia that were of interest to their respective media outlets. “My name is Alyaa from Malaysia Kini. Our main focus on issues related to Indonesia is on migrant workers. We often produce special reports in collaboration with media outlets from Indonesia,” said Alyaa Alhadjri, a journalist from Malaysia Kini. Alyaa is one of the journalists who regularly covers news about Indonesia. She often attends events organised by the Indonesian Embassy in Kuala Lumpur. Meanwhile, a senior journalist from the Malaysian media outlet Berita Harian, Nazmi Yaakub, said that his media outlet often receives articles from ambassadors of friendly countries and diplomats to be published as news. He also invited Ambassador Iman to submit his views in the form of articles that could be published in the media outlet. “Other ambassadors also send in articles, such as the US Ambassador and the Chinese Ambassador. If Dato’ would like to become a contributor, he is welcome to do so,” said Nazmi.
