Changsha — The Indonesian Embassy in Beijing provided consular services whilst hosting a breaking of fast ceremony with Indonesian citizens (WNI) in Changsha, Hunan Province on Sunday, 8 March.

The consular services comprised biometric recording for new passport applications conducted by the Immigration Attaché team from the Indonesian Embassy in Beijing, along with dissemination of information regarding consular and immigration matters to Indonesian university students and diaspora communities.

“I want the embassy to not merely remain in Beijing. I want there to be a direct presence, greeting people, listening to their stories,” said Indonesian Ambassador to China and Mongolia Djauhari Oratmangun in his address at the event.

Previously, Indonesian citizens seeking such services had to undertake a journey of nearly 1,500 kilometres to Beijing.

Approximately 200 Indonesian citizens attended the event, with roughly 90 per cent being Indonesian students studying at various universities in Changsha.

In his address, Ambassador Djauhari also reminded overseas Indonesians of the importance of registering with Indonesian diplomatic missions. “Now the process is very simple. One only needs to use the Peduli WNI portal. It can be done from anywhere, at any time, and from any location,” added Ambassador Djauhari.

Following Ambassador Djauhari’s remarks, the gathering continued with an introduction by Deputy Ambassador Irene to the Indonesian community present.

“This meeting is very meaningful, because diplomacy is not merely about relations between nations and governments, but also about maintaining communication with Indonesian citizens residing abroad,” said Irene whilst meeting with the Indonesian community members.

She emphasised the important role of the Indonesian community in China as a bridge of international friendship. “The presence of Indonesians in China, whether working, conducting business, or studying, serves as a bridge of international friendship. Every achievement attained by students, every professional contribution made, every interaction with local communities, all of these carry Indonesia’s name,” she said.

Following the remarks, the event concluded with a communal breaking of fast ceremony.

As a closing gesture, Ambassador Djauhari invited the Indonesian citizens to sing together the song “Rayuan Pulau Kelapa” (The Charm of Coconut Island) to emphasise that regardless of where they are, Indonesians remain connected as one large Indonesian family abroad.
