The Indonesian Embassy (KBRI) in Amman, Jordan, has explained a video post about a group of pilgrims stranded as the Middle East situation escalates in the wake of the war waged by the United States with its Israel ally against Iran. Through the Instagram account @renatatours, tagging other accounts such as @tempodotco, Tour Leaders Renata Tours, Rora Gunadi, said she was confused about how to return to Indonesia. The reason given was that airlines had cancelled and halted flight operations as a result of the war.

The embassy explained that on Monday afternoon, 2 March, it had received communication with one of the pilgrim groups that were stranded. The communication stated that the group was travelling home from Petra to Amman and would fly to Jakarta with Etihad Airways on 4 March 2026. However, given the current Middle East situation, many airlines have cancelled routes. The cancellation was also reported by the pilgrims themselves.

The embassy said it promptly responded to the report and offered alternative flight options that could be taken by the group, in line with what the embassy had told other pilgrim groups who had contacted it previously.

Nevertheless, on Tuesday, 3 March 2026, the Rora group contacted the embassy again and informed that their flight to Jakarta with Emirates had been cancelled. The group also reported difficulty obtaining the recommended alternative flight options.

The pilgrims then asked the Indonesian government to organise evacuation and to provide information on available planes that could be chartered from Jordan. At that time there were no evacuation plans for Indonesian citizens in Amman.

Nonetheless, the embassy said it has continued to maintain active communication and monitor the group’s situation. Based on records, 27 Indonesian pilgrims from different groups left Jordan on an alternative flight via Cairo, Egypt.

The embassy added that it has continued to arrange Indonesian dishes as part of its communications with the group, preparing for Wednesday night, and would also request medicines for the groups that remain stranded. “The embassy is still seeking information on charter aircraft to meet their requests,” the KBRI Amman statement said.
