Indonesian Embassy Appreciates Malaysia's Extension of Migrant Repatriation Programme 2.0
Kuala Lumpur (ANTARA) - The Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia (KBRI) in Kuala Lumpur has welcomed the Malaysian Government’s decision to extend the Migrant Repatriation Programme (PRM) 2.0. The programme, originally scheduled to end on 30 April 2026, has been officially extended until 2027, thereby providing more time for Indonesian citizens (WNI) holding the status of Illegal Foreign Immigrants (PATI) to return to the homeland in a safe, orderly, and dignified manner. PRM 2.0 is an initiative of the Malaysian Government that enables undocumented migrant workers, including foreign nationals (WNA) without valid immigration documents, to leave Malaysia voluntarily with relief from fine costs, provided they follow the procedures of the Malaysian Immigration Department (JIM). The KBRI in Kuala Lumpur, in a statement received by ANTARA in Kuala Lumpur on Friday, views this extension as a positive policy that deserves appreciation. This is especially true as there are still recorded Indonesian citizens, particularly vulnerable groups, who have not yet been able to utilise the self-repatriation scheme during the first implementation period. These figures do not include Indonesians facilitated through Indonesian representatives in other regions of Malaysia, so the overall number of programme beneficiaries is estimated to be much larger. The KBRI in Kuala Lumpur reaffirms its commitment to continue providing optimal consular services and protection for all Indonesian citizens in Malaysia, encompassing facilitation of consular documents, accompaniment, and support for vulnerable Indonesian groups. Indonesian citizens planning to work or reside in Malaysia are urged to always pursue legal migration channels in accordance with applicable regulations to avoid legal risks and immigration issues in the future. The KBRI states that this collaboration reflects the spirit of partnership between the two countries in realising more orderly, safe, and humane migration governance. Indonesian citizens requiring further information on the Migrant Repatriation Programme 2.0 or consular assistance can contact the KBRI Kuala Lumpur via hotline numbers: +6017 500 7047 / +6017 668 8032.
