Indonesian Diaspora Appreciates Prabowo's Attention to Citizens Abroad
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian diaspora in the Philippines has appreciated President Prabowo Subianto’s attention to Indonesian citizens (WNI) living abroad.
This sentiment was expressed by several diaspora members upon welcoming President Prabowo’s arrival to attend the 48th ASEAN Summit in Cebu, Philippines, on Thursday (7/5).
According to information received on Friday, they view Prabowo as a figure with significant concern for overseas Indonesians, as reflected in his friendly demeanour and willingness to take time to interact with the Indonesian diaspora.
One such expression came from Dini, an Indonesian citizen who has resided in the Philippines for nine years. She stated that upon arriving in the Philippines, Prabowo took the time to converse with the Indonesian diaspora who welcomed him.
According to Dini, this attitude reflects Prabowo’s friendliness and attention to overseas Indonesians.
“He (Prabowo) is certainly a friendly person, able to chat with several diaspora members and even ask some questions as a greeting upon arrival,” said Dini.
Therefore, she expressed pride as an Indonesian citizen for receiving direct attention from Prabowo. She also appreciated the government for providing her the opportunity to interact directly with Prabowo, albeit briefly.
“I am proud as a diaspora to represent my country in welcoming the President’s presence here. This opportunity certainly doesn’t come often, or perhaps once in a lifetime,” she added.
Similar sentiments were voiced by Ronald, a doctor also residing in the Philippines. He expressed joy at meeting and conversing directly with Prabowo, whom he regards as friendly and close to the Indonesian diaspora abroad.
“In line with this year’s ASEAN Summit theme, Navigating Our Future, Together, I hope Mr Prabowo can make Indonesia and the ASEAN region more solid,” said Ronald.
Meanwhile, Father Agus Sudaryanto, a priest at St Vincent Cebu, expressed delight and emotion at finally meeting face-to-face and chatting briefly with President Prabowo.
“So far, I could only watch videos of his overseas visits, but now it’s on the spot. He even asked me questions earlier,” said Father Agus.
Father Agus also recounted his joy at having a casual conversation with Prabowo about his life while living in the Philippines. He told Prabowo that he has been settled in Cebu for 15 years.
“He asked where I’m from? From Madiun. Oh, it’s been a long time. Can you speak the local language? Oh yes, yes, sir,” Father Agus recounted.
Furthermore, he believes Prabowo’s presence among the Indonesian diaspora brings a special sense of pride. He even noted that Prabowo’s figure is becoming more widely known, including in the Philippines.
“Our President is world-renowned, especially in neighbouring countries, particularly the Philippines where we live,” he said.
Father Agus mentioned that Filipinos often inquire about Indonesia. Therefore, he feels proud to introduce Indonesia through Prabowo’s capable leadership.
“Filipinos often ask about Indonesia, and we have President Prabowo Subianto who is so extraordinary. That’s the impression—pleased,” he concluded.
