The Indonesian Consulate General (KJRI) in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, held an Eid al-Fitr prayer event despite ongoing tensions in the Gulf region, with Consul General Yusron Ambary assuring that the situation in Jeddah remains conducive. “Alhamdulillah, the atmosphere in Jeddah is still conducive, and during this Eid moment, more than 2,000 Indonesian expatriates in Jeddah and surrounding areas were still able to gather for Eid al-Fitr prayers at the Indonesian Residence in Jeddah,” Yusron said when contacted by ANTARA in Jakarta on Saturday. He stated that the event, held on Friday (20/3) local time, was a highly anticipated moment for Indonesian expatriates in Jeddah and surrounding areas, as it allowed them to reconnect and meet fellow overseas citizens. “Togetherness on the day of victory in a foreign land far from family and relatives is a very joyful moment for the majority of Indonesian migrant workers (PMI),” said Consul General Yusron. Yusron hopes that the Eid al-Fitr atmosphere provided by KJRI Jeddah this time can bring happiness to Indonesian expatriates and alleviate their longing for the Eid festivities back home. The series of events at KJRI Jeddah began with Eid al-Fitr prayers followed by a sermon, then continued with halalbihalal. The atmosphere of Eid in the homeland was further felt by the Indonesian diaspora there when KJRI Jeddah served ketupat sayur, chicken opor, potato balado, and Indonesian crackers. The enthusiasm of the Indonesian expatriates was evident from their attendance despite having to travel long distances, as shown by several participants who said they came from the city of Rabigh, located about 150 km north of Jeddah. Meanwhile, Muslims in Saudi Arabia, including the Indonesian diaspora in the country, celebrated Eid al-Fitr 1447 H, marking the end of the holy month of Ramadan, on 20 March 2026. In contrast to KJRI Jeddah, the Indonesian Embassy (KBRI) in Riyadh decided to cancel the communal Eid al-Fitr 1447 H prayer agenda in relation to developments in the region. In a statement posted on its official Instagram account, KBRI Riyadh urged Indonesian nationals to perform Eid al-Fitr prayers at the nearest mosque and to continue following local authorities’ instructions.
