JAKARTA — Business leaders, investors, and policymakers gathered at the Main Hall of the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) to hold Ring The Bell for Gender Equality (RTBFGE) 2026, commemorating International Women’s Day 2026.

The event highlighted the theme “Female Leadership for a Fair and Prosperous Economy”, focusing on the contributions that the private sector and business can make to advance gender equality and inclusive, prosperous economics for all.

RTBFGE was organised by the IDX in collaboration with UN Women, the UN Global Compact Network Indonesia (IGCN), the International Finance Corporation (IFC), and the Indonesia Business Coalition for Women Empowerment (IBCWE).

“Today, what we want to do is send a message that must be heard in every boardroom, by every investor, and by every decision-maker in this room and beyond: that female leadership is an investment that will make companies more profitable, better, and more competitive,” said Mari Elka Pangestu, Vice Chair of the National Economic Council, in a written statement.

UN Women Indonesia Representative and Liaison to ASEAN, Ulziisuren Jamsran, emphasised this year’s Ring The Bell theme.

“The participation and leadership of women is essential to building a fair and prosperous economy,” she said.

She noted that by promoting policies supporting workplace equality, recognising and equitably distributing unpaid care work, strengthening digital inclusion, and transforming social norms, institutions, and society as a whole, it is possible to unlock women’s full potential and accelerate progress towards gender equality.

According to her, the Ring The Bell for Gender Equality event sends a strong signal of the private sector’s, state-owned enterprises’, and business sector’s commitment to accelerating women’s empowerment and promoting a more inclusive economy.

“Through the Ring The Bell for Gender Equality momentum that we organise annually with IDX, UN Women, IBCWE, and IFC, we encourage Indonesian companies to accelerate implementation of the Women’s Empowerment Principles and ensure women have equal opportunities to lead, innovate, and contribute to decision-making,” she stated.

Executive Director of IBCWE, Wita Krisanti, said the organisation remains committed to supporting companies in identifying gender gaps, developing priority action plans, and monitoring progress in implementing gender equality policies and achievements systematically through Gender Equality Assessment, Results and Strategies (GEARS).

“Since late last year, IBCWE has also collaborated with the International Labour Organization (ILO) through the RealGains Project to strengthen work environments that support women’s career growth in Indonesia’s key export sectors,” she said.
