Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Badminton Association of Indonesia (PBSI) is focusing on an acclimatisation programme as a key component of preparations for athletes competing in the All England Open Badminton Championships 2026 at the Utilita Arena in Birmingham, England, from 3-8 March.

PBSI’s Head of Development and Achievement, Eng Hian, said that adaptation to the weather, time zone and arena conditions is receiving particular attention given that the tournament is at the highest BWF World Tour Super 1000 level.

“Acclimatisation is a crucial factor. The team will undergo an acclimatisation programme from 24-28 February 2026 in Milton Keynes. Subsequently, on 1 March, the team will move to Birmingham so that the athletes have optimal time to adapt to the competition venue,” Eng Hian said in an official statement on Monday.

Milton Keynes was chosen because it has adequate training facilities and an environment considered conducive to rebuilding training rhythm after the long journey from Indonesia to Europe.

According to Eng Hian, this is being done so that athletes are no longer preoccupied with the adjustment process during the opening days of competition.

“Competing at the Super 1000 level is a test of quality and mental strength. We want them to be brave in facing pressure, learn from a major tournament, and showcase their best performances,” Eng Hian said.

A total of 24 Indonesian athletes are scheduled to compete in the tournament, including several players who will be making their debut at the All England 2026.

They are Alwi Farhan, Raymond Indra/Nikolaus Joaquin, Rahmat Hidayat, Rachel Allessya Rose/Febi Setianingrum, Meilysa Trias Puspitasari, Jafar Hidayatullah/Felisha Alberta Pasaribu, and Amri Syahnawi/Nita Violina Marwah.

PBSI is targeting its athletes to perform optimally from the early rounds and maintain consistency in every match.

Additionally, as part of efforts to maintain team consistency and dynamics, PBSI has made adjustments to the coaching structure in the men’s doubles sector aimed at refreshing the setup.

This step was taken to ensure that the training atmosphere and mentoring remain fresh, adaptive and responsive to the demands of competition at the highest level.

Under the new structure, Chafidz Yusuf will serve as assistant coach in the senior men’s doubles sector to support Antonius, whilst Thomas Indratjaja has been entrusted as assistant coach in the development men’s doubles sector alongside Andrei Adistia.
