Indonesian Army soldier assaults online taxi driver after vehicle clash
An Indonesian Army (TNI AD) soldier is alleged to have assaulted a driver of an online taxi in the Setu area of South Tangerang (Tangsel), Banten. The assault was triggered by a minor collision on the road.
‘Based on initial investigations, the incident occurred due to a dispute stemming from the vehicle brush,’ said Brigadier General Donny Pramono, head of the Army Public Information Service (Kadispenad), in a statement on Wednesday, 4 March 2026.
Donny said Denpom Jaya/1 Tangerang would coordinate with the South Tangerang Police (Polres Tangerang Selatan) regarding the incident. On Monday night, 2 March, the involved soldier had already been secured at Madenpom Jaya/1 Tangerang.
‘At this time the involved soldier has been secured and is being questioned by Denpom Jaya/1 Tangerang. We ensure the legal process will proceed in accordance with applicable regulations, including deepening the chronology, witness statements, and gathering of evidence,’ he said.
The involved TNI AD soldier is still undergoing investigation. Donny emphasised that the soldier will be prosecuted under military law and given stern sanctions if found guilty.
The assault went viral on social media on Wednesday 4 March 2026. In the circulating video, the perpetrator is seen assaulting the victim by hitting, kicking, and slamming him to the asphalt.
The online taxi driver’s hands were seen to be handcuffed. The perpetrator even pointed a suspected pistol at the taxi driver’s head. Several people at the scene can be seen trying to intervene.
