The Indonesian Army (TNI AD) has confirmed that work on the Garuda Pioneer Suspension Bridge, which crosses the Tamiang River and connects Sekerak Kiri Village with Bandar Mahligai Village in Sekerak Subdistrict, Aceh Tamiang Regency, has reached 79.90 percent completion. In an official press release received in Jakarta on Wednesday, it was explained that the bridge is being built to restore land access between the two areas, which was previously severed due to natural disasters. “The presence of this bridge is expected to restore connectivity and support the social and economic activities of the community,” said the Head of the Indonesian Army Information Service (Kadispenad), Brigadier General TNI Donny Pramono, when contacted in Jakarta. Donny explained that the bridge has a length of 240 metres and a width of 120 centimetres. He continued that so far, several basic constructions of the bridge have been completed. Some of the work already finished includes site clearing, installation of the bridge’s main cables, excavation, concreting, installation of the main slings, and construction of the gate structure along with its safety elements. Ongoing work includes the installation of longitudinal beams at 50 percent, installation of flow slings at 80 percent, and construction of the walkway boards at 30 percent. Meanwhile, the installation of wire ramps is still in the initial stage, while the installation of signs and painting of the foundations has reached 40 percent. “We ensure that all construction materials are 100 percent available on site, thus supporting the smooth progress of the work without significant obstacles,” Donny explained. Donny assured that the bridge will be completed as quickly as possible so that it can be immediately used by the community for their activities.
