The two foreign ministers underscored this commitment during a bilateral meeting in Washington DC on Thursday (19 February) local time. On the same day, a heads-of-state-level meeting of the Board of Peace was also held.

"A productive discussion with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio in Washington DC to strengthen the Indonesia-US Comprehensive Strategic Partnership," Sugiono said on social media platform X on Friday.

Beyond bilateral partnership, both foreign ministers also committed to enhancing cooperation in advancing regional stability and global peace, including in Palestine, particularly the Gaza Strip.

Meanwhile, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio also confirmed the meeting with his Indonesian counterpart via social media platform X, where he endorsed the shared commitment to strengthening bilateral economic and security partnerships.

"Indonesia is an important partner in promoting a secure and prosperous Indo-Pacific region," Rubio said.

The US Secretary of State also expressed his appreciation to the Indonesian Foreign Minister for "Indonesia's support for the Board of Peace" as a founding member of the Donald Trump-led body.

Posts by both foreign ministers on their respective social media accounts also featured a photograph of the two ministers shaking hands at the meeting venue, with the Indonesian and American flags in the background.

In addition to meeting Rubio, Sugiono was also known to have held separate bilateral meetings with Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty, Pakistani Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, and Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi at United Nations Headquarters on Wednesday (18 February) local time.

During those meetings, the Indonesian Foreign Minister and his counterparts discussed international geopolitical dynamics and support for Palestine.

Sugiono also reaffirmed Indonesia's commitment to playing an active role in supporting a ceasefire and the protection of civilians in Palestine, particularly in the Gaza Strip.
