Jakarta (ANTARA) - On the occasion of Eid al-Fitr 1447 H this year, Indonesian Ambassador to Turkey Achmad Rizal Purnama urged the Indonesian diaspora in the country to maintain an attitude of mutual care and to continually support peace.

“I invite all Indonesian communities, especially those in Turkey, to continue nurturing care and solidarity among fellow Indonesians as well as among nations,” said Ambassador Rizal during the Eid al-Fitr prayer together at the Residence of the Indonesian Embassy in Ankara, Turkey, on Friday (20/3).

According to a written statement from the Indonesian Embassy in Ankara received in Jakarta on Saturday, Rizal conveyed that this year’s Eid al-Fitr holds deeper meaning amid the current global situation, with wars raging everywhere.

“The celebration of Eid al-Fitr amid a world filled with conflicts reminds us all of the importance of peace,” he said.

He also reminded that the Eid moment should be viewed as more than just a religious ceremony, but also as a space to strengthen togetherness among the diaspora and a sense of love for the homeland.

Ambassador Rizal also encouraged the Indonesian diaspora in Turkey to jointly contribute to realising a more peaceful, just, and prosperous Republic of Indonesia.

The communal Eid al-Fitr prayer event was attended by more than 600 Indonesian citizens in Turkey, consisting of students and professionals. According to the Indonesian Embassy in Ankara, the enthusiasm of the Indonesian diaspora in Turkey to participate was very high, as the event felt to them like gathering with their own family.

Several participants admitted to travelling quite far to celebrate Eid at the Indonesian Embassy in Ankara, including from Bursa, which is 380 km from Ankara, and Erzurum, which is 800 km from Turkey’s capital.

In addition to being attended by Indonesians, the event was also attended by several ambassadors from friendly countries, including from Pakistan, Singapore, the Philippines, Bangladesh, and Brunei Darussalam.

The Indonesian Embassy in Ankara hopes that the communal Eid al-Fitr prayer activity will serve as a momentum to maintain values of togetherness and peace for Indonesians living abroad in Turkey.

Meanwhile, Muslims in Turkey, along with the Indonesian Embassy in Ankara and the Indonesian diaspora in the country, have celebrated Eid al-Fitr 1447 H, marking the end of the holy month of Ramadan, on 20 March 2026.
