Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia’s Ambassador to Kazakhstan, M. Fadjroel Rachman, is optimistic that the trade value between Indonesia and Kazakhstan can surpass $2 billion US as economic cooperation between the two countries strengthens through the Indonesia-Kazakhstan Joint Commission Meeting (SKB). “We are optimistic that Indonesia-Kazakhstan trade can break through the new target of $2 billion US (approximately Rp35.03 trillion),” Fadjroel stated in a release from the Indonesian Embassy in Astana received on Wednesday. According to him, this target is supported by developments in cooperation in logistics, direct flights, visa-free access, investment protection, as well as energy and mineral collaboration. Fadjroel also assessed that the implementation of the Indonesia–Eurasian Economic Union Free Trade Agreement (Indonesia–EAEU FTA) will be the main driver for increasing trade between the two countries. He mentioned that the trade potential within the Indonesia-EAEU framework could reach $10 billion US, involving Kazakhstan, Belarus, Armenia, and Kyrgyzstan. In the forum, Fadjroel emphasised the importance of concrete follow-up on various agreements that have been established between the two countries so that they do not stop at mere cooperation documents. “We are building a golden bridge of friendship and shared prosperity towards the future. This is an action-oriented partnership,” he said. The second Indonesia-Kazakhstan SKB was led by Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto together with Kazakhstan’s Deputy Prime Minister Serik Zhumangarin in Astana on Monday. The meeting reactivated the bilateral cooperation mechanism that had been dormant since 2013. Through this mechanism, the two countries agreed to expand cooperation in the energy sector, digital economy, artificial intelligence, food security, agribusiness, up to connectivity and logistics. Indonesia also pushed for increased market access for a number of national flagship products such as palm oil, coffee, fishery products, footwear, and processed foods. The meeting was part of Airlangga’s working visit to the Eurasian region from 10–16 May 2026, which also included Russia and Belarus.
