Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Chief of Staff of the Indonesian Air Force (KSAU), Marshal TNI Tonny Harjono, stated that his organisation is pursuing the target of building 30 radar units (satrad) across Indonesia. The construction of these radar units is ongoing and is targeted to be fully operational by 2029. “Insyaallah, by 2029, all will be installed according to plan. There will eventually be 30 satrad,” Tonny said during a press conference at the Air Force Headquarters in Cilangkap, East Jakarta, on Thursday. Tonny explained that the presence of these radar units is essential for monitoring Indonesia’s air activities. According to him, with these radar units, the TNI AU can anticipate the entry of foreign aircraft into Indonesian airspace. To date, the TNI AU already has 20 radar units scattered across Indonesia. However, some of these radar units need to be replaced due to obsolescence. “We will receive 25 new radars because, as we know, the 20 satrad we currently have are obsolete but still functioning well,” Tonny stated. The new radar units will be placed in locations identified as blind spots in Indonesia’s airspace. With the assistance of these radar units, Tonny is confident that Indonesia’s air defence will be further strengthened.
