Indonesia Urges Palestinian Authority Involvement in Gaza Through Board of Peace
The Palestinian Ambassador to Indonesia, Abdulfattah A.K. Al-Sattiri, affirmed Indonesia’s role in the Board of Peace, stating that Indonesia has been championing the presence of Palestinian authorities in the Gaza Strip.
“I am aware that Indonesia has called upon other nations to allow Palestinian police to enter Gaza to protect their people, and many Arab countries have requested the United States to permit Palestinian police entry into Gaza to safeguard and serve their communities,” said Abdulfattah, speaking at the Palestinian Embassy’s Iftar event in Jakarta on Friday evening, 27 February.
According to the ambassador, only the Palestinian people themselves and honest individuals worldwide, such as the Indonesian people, can truly protect Palestinians. He emphasised that Palestinians desire two fundamental objectives in Gaza: an end to the war and dignified living conditions.
“My people need water, medicines, schools and universities. Any nation can support my people in Gaza and enter the territory to provide humanitarian assistance to the Gaza population,” he stated.
The ambassador expressed profound gratitude for Indonesia’s unwavering support for Palestinians in Gaza, describing it as crucial for enabling them to survive and continue their lives in their homeland. He remarked that without international backing, Palestinians would be unable to persevere in their struggle.
“We are proud that Indonesia supports the Palestinian people. Our people cannot survive in Gaza and continue their struggle without support from others. This represents tremendous backing for our continued struggle and our presence in our land in Gaza,” he said.
Despite the dire humanitarian situation, with Palestinian casualties occurring daily, the ambassador stressed that Palestinians refuse to abandon Gaza and remain determined to endure. He noted that Israeli forces have destroyed more than 85 per cent of Palestinian housing.
Nevertheless, Al-Sattiri called upon the international community to witness the Palestinian people’s resolve in achieving independence. “Look into the eyes of our children. You will see that the Palestinian people will continue fighting for an independent Palestine. Palestine will be free. God willing,” he concluded.
