JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The Foreign Ministry (Kemlu) has spoken out in response to calls from many quarters for Indonesia to withdraw from its membership of the Board of Peace (BoP) after the United States (US) and Israel attacked Iran. It is known that the US is the initiator of the Board of Peace. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Yvonne Mewengkang said that every Indonesian foreign policy decision, including joining the BoP, is taken with consideration of national interests. ‘Every Indonesian foreign policy decision is taken with regard to constitutional principles, national interest, and Indonesia’s commitment to the Palestinian people’s struggle for independence and lasting peace,’ she told Kompas.com on Saturday, 7 March 2026. The participation is also aimed at strengthening support for the Two-State Solution, and ensuring protection of civilians in accordance with international law and the UN Charter. Indonesia also continues to maintain close coordination with the eight Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) member states that are BoP members, namely Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Jordan, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, Türkiye and Pakistan. ‘This intensive communication is being conducted to ensure that every step taken remains aligned with the collective efforts to push for de-escalation, civilian protection, and real progress towards a two-state solution,’ she said. Nevertheless, she stated that the government continues to accommodate the aspirations voiced to the public. For information, Indonesians are pressing the government to immediately withdraw from the BoP following the open military attacks by the US-Israel on Iran. The attack on Iran is seen as clear evidence that the Trump-era body is merely a diplomatic façade that does not align with a commitment to peace. One party calling for RI’s withdrawal from the BoP is former Jakarta governor Anies Baswedan. According to Anies, Indonesia is a country born from rejection of colonisation. In the opening of the 1945 Constitution, Indonesia promised to create a world order based on independence, lasting peace and social justice.
