Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs has confirmed that the country will raise the issue of Israel's expansion of annexation in the occupied West Bank at the inaugural Board of Peace (BoP) meeting in Washington DC.

According to Foreign Ministry spokesperson Vahd Nabyl A. Mulachela, Foreign Minister Sugiono had previously conveyed Indonesia's concern over the Zionist regime's actions during a United Nations Security Council (UNSC) meeting on Wednesday (18 February).

"I believe this matter will certainly be discussed again at the BoP meeting," Nabyl said after a media briefing in Jakarta on Thursday.

He noted that on the same occasion, the Foreign Minister also expressed concern that if Israel's annexation of the West Bank is not halted, the two-state solution will become increasingly difficult to achieve.

In a joint statement released by the Foreign Ministry via the social media platform X on Tuesday (17 February), Foreign Minister Sugiono, together with his counterparts from Egypt, Jordan, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Turkey, and the United Arab Emirates, strongly condemned Israel's decision to designate the occupied West Bank territory as "state land."

The illegal move was deemed a serious escalation aimed at accelerating illegal settlement activity, land seizure, and strengthening Israel's unilateral control and illegal sovereignty over Palestinian territory.

The ministers affirmed that the decision contravenes the International Court of Justice's Advisory Opinion, which emphasises the illegality of actions that alter the legal status, history, and demographics of Palestinian territory.

Regarding other issues Indonesia intends to raise at the inaugural meeting of BoP member states on Thursday, Washington DC time, Sugiono also highlighted the importance of alignment between the Board of Peace and the UN Security Council.

He stated that the UNSC and the Board of Peace have complementary mandates and pathways in promoting peace in the Gaza Strip, and therefore the two entities must not work at cross-purposes.

President Prabowo Subianto is set to attend the heads of state meeting of Board of Peace members in Washington DC on Thursday local time, marking the organisation's first gathering since the Board of Peace Charter was signed on 22 January 2026.
