Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has confirmed it will leverage all platforms within the international mechanism, including BRICS, to promote peace in the Middle East and an end to the conflicts involving Iran and Lebanon.

“In various forums and opportunities, we strive to push for improvements in global conditions, including in the Middle East region,” said Director General for Asia Pacific and Africa at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Santo Darmosumarto, in Jakarta on Wednesday.

Following the China-Indonesia Media and Think Tank Forum 2026, Santo stated that his ministry will continue to monitor developments in negotiations between the United States and Iran, as well as between Israel and Lebanon.

Indonesia also respects the decisions of the conflicting parties to determine their own platforms for peace negotiations, such as Iran and the US using Pakistan as a mediator.

“The various efforts made in these forums are hoped to complement the initiatives being undertaken by the relevant parties,” Santo said.

He further assured that Indonesia will always actively advocate for peace on any platform of which the country is a member.

This statement follows an announcement by the Iranian Foreign Minister, who noted progress in diplomatic efforts between the US and Iran, facilitated by Qatar and Pakistan. In a joint statement, Qatar and Pakistan also conveyed that the parties agreed to establish a joint coordination mechanism, involving Lebanon, to ensure compliance with the cessation of military operations in Lebanon as per the memorandum reached by the US and Iran.

The parties have reportedly also agreed to form a High-Level Committee to oversee the implementation of the signed Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding.

Meanwhile, a new round of direct negotiations between Lebanon and Israel is currently underway in Washington, D.C., United States, from 23 to 25 June.
