Indonesia taps UGM to drive sports innovation with big data technology
..the cooperation would strengthen the use of big data and digital technology to map the potential of Indonesian youth more accurately.Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Ministry of Youth and Sports is collaborating with Gadjah Mada University (UGM) to advance sports development driven by academic research.
In an official statement here on Monday, Deputy Youth and Sports Minister Taufik Hidayat expressed confidence that the synergy can serve as a model for government-university partnership in building a modern, innovative, and globally competitive youth and sports ecosystem.
The collaboration was formalized through the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the deputy minister and UGM Rector Prof. Ova Emilia in Yogyakarta on Sunday (May 24).
The MoU covers education, research, and community service in the fields of youth and sports development.
Hidayat expressed hope that the cooperation would strengthen the use of big data and digital technology to map the potential of Indonesian youth more accurately. This approach, he said, would enable youth and sports programs to be designed more effectively and deliver tangible benefits to society.
The deputy minister added that the collaboration also demonstrates that youth and sports development cannot be carried out in isolation. Synergy among the government, universities, businesses, and the public is essential to producing sustainable and impactful policies.
He also expressed hope that the partnership would serve as a foundation for concrete programs that provide broad benefits for youth and sports development.
Meanwhile, UGM Rector Prof. Ova Emilia noted that the MoU builds on a collaboration that has been ongoing since 2014.
She said the partnership marks a new milestone, particularly in advancing youth and sports development through science, technology, research, and innovation.
One of the ways UGM supports sports development is through its Student Activity Units (UKM). The university hosts several sports clubs, including those dedicated to Olympic disciplines.
In this regard, the collaboration will be followed up on by faculties engaged in youth and sports development based on research, science, and technology.
“It will certainly focus not only on human resource capacity building, but also on education, training, and community service,” the rector said.
