Foreign Minister Sugiono supports the establishment of a liaison office for the Palestinian Authority within the Board of Peace. According to Sugiono, this office will facilitate communication between the Palestinian Authority and the Board of Peace regarding the peace mission in the Gaza Strip.

Sugiono conveyed this position during a meeting with Palestinian Foreign Minister and Expatriates Varsen Aghabekian Shahin on the sidelines of the 61st session of the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva, Switzerland, earlier this week.

During the meeting, Sugiono discussed Indonesia’s involvement in the Board of Peace and the Gaza peacekeeping force, or International Stabilization Force (ISF). Sugiono stated that Indonesia’s participation is solely aimed at protecting civilians and providing humanitarian assistance in the Gaza Strip.

“The primary focus of the Indonesian contingent (within the ISF) is the protection of civilians and humanitarian support,” said Sugiono in a written statement on Thursday, February 26, 2026.

According to Sugiono, the Palestinian Authority has established a liaison office to facilitate coordination and communication with the Board of Peace, which oversees the ISF. Communication between the Palestinian Authority and the Board of Peace will be conducted within the framework of supporting the 20-Point Peace Plan proposed by US President Donald Trump and the implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 2803.

Sugiono stated that Indonesia will ensure that the transition process in Palestine aligns with the principles of international law. He affirmed Indonesia’s commitment to maintaining the sustainability of the ceasefire and promoting a credible political process towards achieving a two-state solution between Palestine and Israel.

Indonesia has committed to sending 8,000 troops to the Gaza Strip, more than any other country involved in the ISF. The total number of troops for the mission in the Gaza Strip is estimated to reach around 20,000.

The plan to deploy the combined ISF forces to the Gaza Strip was previously announced during the inaugural meeting of the Board of Peace. The conference took place in Washington D.C., United States, and was attended by leaders of member countries, including President Prabowo Subianto. The meeting was also attended by the Chairman of the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza (NCAG), Ali Shaath.

Nickolay Mladenov, Director General of the Board of Peace, said that the reconstruction of Gaza depends on disarmament. “There is no other option than complete demilitarization and the dismantling of all weapons in Gaza so that reconstruction can begin and the Palestinian people can have a new way of life in the future,” said Mladenov.

Hamas spokesman Hazem Qassem said that the Palestinian group is open to international peacekeeping forces in Gaza. However, he rejected any interference in the internal affairs of the region.

“We want peacekeeping forces that monitor the ceasefire, ensure its implementation, and act as a buffer between the occupying army and our people in the Gaza Strip, without interfering in the internal affairs of Gaza,” said Wassem, as reported by Al Arabiya.
