Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Bahlil Lahadalia has assured that Indonesia has locked in a crude oil supply from Russia until the end of 2026. This certainty was conveyed after reporting to President Prabowo Subianto at the State Palace on Thursday (16/4/2026).

Bahlil explained that securing this supply is a follow-up to President Prabowo Subianto’s directives after a working visit to the Land of the Red Bear to strengthen long-term energy cooperation. This step is taken to maintain energy supply stability amid high domestic needs.

“For crude, one year from this month until December, insyaallah it is already secure,” said the ESDM Minister.

He detailed that national fuel consumption reaches around 1.6 million barrels per day, while domestic production is only around 600,000 to 610,000 barrels per day. This gap means Indonesia still imports about one million barrels per day.

Such conditions have prompted the government to expand supply sources from various countries. Russia is one partner deemed ready to meet these needs while supporting energy infrastructure development.

“The news is quite encouraging; we will receive crude supplies from Russia, and they are also ready to build several important infrastructures,” said Bahlil.

He stated that discussions on crude supplies are nearing the final stage. Communication regarding LPG is still ongoing and requires further steps.

According to Bahlil, the national crude needs of around 300 million barrels per year demand that the government be flexible in determining the most beneficial supply sources.

In this cooperation, the government is also opening opportunities for Russian investment in the downstream sector, including the construction of refineries and storage facilities. Technical discussions and investment values are still underway and will be announced after reaching a final agreement. The cooperation is conducted through intergovernmental and inter-business schemes as part of strengthening national energy infrastructure in the long term.

“It is secure; I convey to the public that insyaallah our stocks are above the minimum standard, for diesel, petrol, and LPG,” Bahlil emphasised.

He affirmed that the government continues to prioritise the principle of active free politics in energy cooperation. Indonesia opens opportunities for cooperation with various countries, including Russia, Africa, and the United States.

Bahlil also reported to President Prabowo regarding the arrangement of mining business permits in forest areas, which has entered the execution stage after a one-week evaluation. This step is part of improving governance in the energy and natural resources sector.
