Indonesia rules Singapore's waves
JAKARTA (JP): The national scullers earned a morale-boosting win ahead of the Southeast Asian Games in Chiang Mai when they clinched victory in the Singapore international invitational dragon boat race on Sunday.
The Indonesian men's rowers completed the 750-meter course in three minutes and 14.28 seconds to beat New Zealand by 5.56 seconds. Host Singapore managed to gain third place in a time of 3:27.01.
Indonesia's winning streak continued in the women's event when it gained a convincing one-two finish at the Sentosa regatta. The Indonesia A team clocked 4:25.42 ahead of its compatriots in the B team, who made it in 4:40.28 for second place.
Secretary-General of the Indonesian Rowing Association, Budiman Setiawan, said the national men's team would now fly to Hong Kong and to Yeu Yang, China, for other traditional boat race tournaments, while the women's team would return home. (amd).
