Jakarta — Indonesia’s Foreign Minister Sugiono has affirmed that Indonesia offers itself as a facilitator for dialogue or mediation to end the war between Israel, the United States, and Iran.

Sugiono conveyed this during communication with Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi regarding the situation in the Middle East. The contents of this communication were shared via the official account @Menlu_RI on Tuesday, 3 March 2026.

“Speaking with Foreign Minister of Iran @araghchi (2/3) regarding the escalating situation in the Middle East,” Sugiono wrote on social media.

In the communication, Sugiono reaffirmed Indonesia’s commitment to preventing further escalation in the Middle East. Indonesia even offered itself as a facilitator for dialogue or mediation to end the war and prevent it from expanding further.

“Indonesia stands ready to play a constructive role in advancing peace, including offering our willingness to facilitate dialogue or mediation, with the common objective of preventing further escalation and ending unnecessary loss of innocent lives,” he stated.

He urged all nations to prioritise diplomacy and uphold international law and the UN Charter.

“Indonesia urges all parties to exercise maximum restraint and immediately pursue de-escalation,” Sugiono said.

The Middle East conflict intensified following Iran becoming the target of attacks by Israel and the United States on Saturday, 28 February 2026, local time. The attacks occurred after nuclear talks held in Geneva, Switzerland between the US and Iran reached an impasse.

Israel was the first to confirm that it had officially attacked Iran. Shortly afterwards, US President Donald Trump formally announced that the United States had joined Israel in attacking Iran.

The Israel-US war against Iran was marked by missiles raining down on the sky over Tehran. Iran immediately retaliated with attacks from Israel and the US by firing several missiles at locations connected to US military operations.

Several US air bases attacked included Al Udeid in Qatar, Al-Salem air base in Kuwait, Al-Dhafra air base in the United Arab Emirates, and the Fifth Fleet Headquarters in Bahrain.
