Indonesia prioritizes AI talent to achieve Golden Vision 2045
National competitiveness in the AI era depends on a workforce capable of understanding, developing, and applying AI to address national challenges,Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia is prioritizing artificial intelligence (AI) talent development as part of its digital transformation strategy and long-term roadmap toward Indonesia Golden Vision 2045, Vice Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs Nezar Patria said.
Nezar Patria said AI talent development is central to strengthening national competitiveness in the digital era at the Garuda AI Impact Summit 2026 in Jakarta on Thursday.
He said the government is strengthening human capacity to ensure the technology is used effectively and responsibly across sectors.
“National competitiveness in the AI era depends on a workforce capable of understanding, developing, and applying AI to address national challenges,” Nezar said
He added that the government will continue to prioritize AI capability building as part of efforts to support inclusive digital transformation toward Indonesia Golden Vision 2045.
Nezar cited the Stanford AI Index Report 2024, which highlights a perception gap between AI experts and the general public regarding the technology’s impact on employment.
The report found that 73 percent of AI experts expect AI to have a positive impact on employment, compared with just 23 percent of the general public.
He said the gap underscores the importance of strengthening digital literacy to help the public better understand both the opportunities and risks associated with AI development.
The government aims to expand access to AI benefits across society, including students, educators, micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), civil servants, and local communities nationwide.
The Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs has implemented digital literacy initiatives in recent years, including various online training programs and awareness campaigns on responsible AI use.
Nezar also said Indonesia is encouraging AI-driven innovation among young professionals and students.
The AI Ready Asia program, run in collaboration with the ASEAN Foundation, has reached more than 5.3 million people in Indonesia and will continue expanding through 2028.
The government is also developing the Garuda SPARK Innovation Hub to connect talent, industry, academia, and policymakers in advancing AI development.
Nezar said AI should serve as a tool to expand access to learning, innovation, and productivity across society.
“Indonesia’s commitment is clear: AI must be accessible to everyone, not concentrated among a limited group of people,” he said.
