JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Indonesia and Laos are exploring ways to strengthen investment cooperation in the fertiliser sector.

Deputy Head of the State-Owned Enterprises Regulatory Agency (BP BUMN) Aminuddin Ma’ruf stated that one of the fertiliser investments in question is the construction of a fertiliser factory.

“Yes, one of them is to reduce dependence on raw materials available in Laos; perhaps one investment opportunity that we need to explore is establishing a fertiliser factory there to reduce raw material costs,” said Aminuddin at the Vice Presidential Palace Complex, Jakarta, on Tuesday (5/5/2026).

Aminuddin said that this enhancement of cooperation was also discussed in the meeting where Indonesian Vice President Gibran Rakabuming received a visit from Laotian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Thongsavan Phomvihane.

“I already conveyed to the Laotian Ambassador that for Indonesia, we will explore a follow-up meeting, which will also involve relevant state-owned enterprises directly,” he said.

On the same occasion, Aminuddin revealed several points discussed by Vice President Gibran during the reception of the Laotian Deputy PM’s visit.

In the meeting that lasted around 40 minutes, Aminuddin revealed that the main topic discussed was the possibility of PT Pupuk Indonesia investing in Laos.

“Vice President conveyed to His Excellency the Deputy Prime Minister to explore the possibility of Pupuk Indonesia investing in Laos to produce fertiliser and its downstream processing,” he said.
