Indonesia placed in the limelight
Indonesia placed in the limelight
From Forum Keadilan
Our country has been independent for 50 years. We have complete liberty to determine our domestic, as well as foreign policies. We have the freedom to establish diplomatic relations with certain countries. Likewise we are free to sever diplomatic relations. We are even free to quit world organizations. But the facts show that a country cannot progress and achieve prosperity if it will not cooperate with other countries, and stand entirely on its own feet. Indeed, none of us wants that sort of state.
Lack of cooperation and lack of aid are a disadvantage to the country concerned. As a result the majority of the people will suffer. As we know, several international organizations have been established, such as Association of International Parliaments, International Court, etc. Each organization will watch its members in carrying out their respective policies.
These days, the issues of human rights, democracy and the environment, particularly, are placed in the limelight. These three issues have universal value. So they are viewed in the same manner all over the world. Therefore, the Indonesian leaders should deal with these matters carefully. Because the international community tends to criticize all out of proportion whatever Indonesia has done wrong.
