Indonesia-Japan strengthen cooperation on clean energy and global supply chains
Jakarta — The Indonesian Government is strengthening strategic partnerships with Japan to promote industrial development, accelerate energy transition, and fortify global supply chains.
Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto stated in Jakarta on Thursday that Japan plays a crucial role in developing Indonesia’s automotive industry.
“In the automotive sector, Japan has historically played an important role in building Indonesia’s automotive industry ecosystem. Today, Indonesia not only possesses a domestic market but has also developed as an automotive production hub, exporting vehicles to over 70 countries,” Hartarto said.
The Government has also expressed appreciation for Japan’s investment contributions in developing Indonesia’s national automotive industry, aimed at strengthening industrial supply chains whilst fostering the emergence of globally scaled automotive brands.
During a meeting with Executive Acting Secretary-General of the Liberal Democratic Party Koichi Hagiuda in Tokyo on Wednesday (11 March), Hagiuda conveyed support for Indonesia’s efforts in developing environmentally friendly fuels. The development includes implementation of the B40 biodiesel programme and planned E20 development by 2028.
