Indonesia fourth in volleyball meet
FUKUOKA, Japan (AFP): Indonesia managed only to finish fourth in Asian Pacific Cup men's volleyball tournament after losing to the Philippines in four sets yesterday.
The Philippines, which lost to Indonesia last year to finish fourth, outplayed the same opponent 13-15, 15-12, 15-4, 15-6 to take third spot with 3-2 win-loss record, pushing the Indonesians to 2-3.
Japan lost a set for the first time this week, but quashed the challenge from Thailand to win the title for a fifth straight year. The defending champion rallied to a 15-6, 12-15, 15-4, 15-9 victory to end the six-team round robin with five straight wins, beating the Thai spikers into second spot with a 4-1 win-loss record.
Malaysia finished at fifth place beating winless Vietnam 16- 14, 15-7, 15-3 to score its first win.
