Indonesia’s pharmaceutical manufacturers are capitalising on the Indonesian Food and Drug Authority (BPOM) achieving WHO Listed Authority (WLA) status to expand vaccine exports globally.

Bio Farma’s Chief Executive Officer, Shadiq Akasya, stated that the BPOM’s WLA recognition presents a significant opportunity for the company to expand its export market, which currently accounts for 54 per cent of its portfolio. Bio Farma is preparing to introduce new products as global confidence in Indonesian pharmaceuticals increases.

Biotis Pharmaceuticals Indonesia’s Chief Executive Officer, FX Sudirman, announced plans to expand vaccine exports, particularly paediatric vaccines, to countries including India, China, Nigeria and Pakistan, leveraging the heightened regulatory credibility.

PT Etana Biotechnologies Indonesia’s Director of Corporate Relations and Strategic Affairs, Andreas Donny Prakasa, highlighted the opportunity to utilise BPOM’s WLA status alongside Indonesia’s halal certification policy to drive pharmaceutical and vaccine expansion into Islamic nations.

The BPOM’s achievement of WHO Listed Authority status represents a watershed moment for Indonesia’s pharmaceutical sector, signalling to international markets that the country’s regulatory standards meet global benchmarks. This recognition enables Indonesian manufacturers to access regulated markets previously restricted to countries with WHO-recognised regulatory authorities, potentially opening billions of dollars in export opportunities across Africa, South Asia and the Middle East.
