JAKARTA,(Xinhua) Indonesian Transport Ministry Freddy Numberi said on Thursday that Indonesia and European Union (EU) have recently signed a deal to cooperate on aviation industry to boost the capacity in the sector.

The minister said that the cooperation included on the safety and security of aviation, and the compliance on international regulation.

"We have signed an agreement of cooperation with the European Union on how to boost capacity," he said after a cabinet meeting at the State Palace on Thursday evening.

Minister Numberi said that Indonesia may conduct a consultation with the union should there will be a dispute over the compliance on the international regulations. "Should there is a problem we can communicate with them (EU) because we have this cooperation. So we may consult first to avoid the sanction," he said.

Indonesia had had European Union sanction of not allowing entering the group territory due to lack of safety standard on aviation.

In 2009, the EU lifted the travel ban on four of Indonesian leading carriers, including PT Garuda Indonesia, after the improvement of the safety standard.

Minister Numberi said that with the cooperation it could also be ensured that products sent to Europe have met the international standard.
