Indonesia Drives Global Forest Management Action at FCLP Meeting in Kenya
With only a few years remaining before the 2030 target, countries need to accelerate concrete action implementation in the forestry sector.
Jakarta — Indonesia is driving concrete global forest management action at the Forest & Climate Leaders’ Partnership (FCLP) All-Member Meeting held in Nairobi, Kenya, from 3-5 March 2026.
Haruni Krisnawati, Special Staff to the Minister of Forestry for Climate Change, stated that the FCLP forum serves as a strategic space to strengthen international collaboration in addressing climate change challenges through sustainable forest management.
“With only a few years remaining before the 2030 target, countries need to accelerate concrete action implementation in the forestry sector. Indonesia has important experience in tropical forest management, including through the FOLU Net Sink 2030 approach, which can contribute to global cooperation,” said Haruni.
The meeting was attended by 34 of the 38 FCLP member countries, with Indonesia and Brazil invited as observers to provide perspectives from Global South nations.
Ristianto Pribadi, Head of Public Relations and International Cooperation at the Ministry of Forestry, added that Indonesia’s participation in the meeting also presents an opportunity to share best practices in sustainable forest governance.
“Indonesia continues to strengthen sustainable forest management through various strategic policies, including the wood legality verification system (SVLK), social forestry programmes, land rehabilitation, and strengthening efforts to prevent forest fires. This experience is important to share in global forums such as FCLP,” said Ristianto.
At the forum, Indonesia also highlighted the potential for developing sustainable timber-based green construction, and stressed the importance of harmonising standards, increasing capacity, and facilitating technology transfer between countries to drive low-carbon forest-based economies.
“Indonesia’s participation in this meeting also strengthens the position of Indonesian forest diplomacy at the global level and opens opportunities for cooperation and access to international financing to support the FOLU Net Sink 2030 agenda and sustainable forest management,” said Ristianto.
