Indonesia-China QRIS Launched, Indonesian SMEs Begin Targeting Global Buyers
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The implementation of the Indonesia-China cross-border QRIS begins to open new opportunities for business actors and SMEs in reaching cross-country consumers, especially tourists from China who transact in Indonesia.
Through this cross-border payment integration, QRIS merchants in Indonesia can now receive digital payments from users of Chinese payment applications, while Indonesian users can also transact at merchants in China using domestic applications.
CEO of PT Netzme Kreasi Indonesia, Vicky G. Saputra, stated that the Indonesia-China cross-border QRIS is not just about introducing a new payment method, but also expanding the readiness of Indonesian SMEs in serving global consumers.
“As a Payment Service Provider (PJP) operating on both the issuer and acquirer sides, Netzme can deliver benefits on two fronts,” Vicky said in an official statement on Monday (5/5/2026).
“Indonesian users can transact more easily in China through Netzme Pay, while Indonesian merchants can receive payments from Chinese tourists via Toko Netzme and Netzme QRIS Soundbox,” he continued.
The participation of PT Netzme Kreasi Indonesia as one of the first-mover Payment Service Providers (PJP) in the implementation of the Indonesia-China cross-border QRIS also supports the agenda of Bank Indonesia and the People’s Bank of China (PBoC) to strengthen cross-border payment connectivity.
Through this scheme, cross-country transactions are expected to become more efficient, inclusive, and support the use of local currencies in digital payments.
On the issuer side through Netzme Pay, application users can make payments at merchants in China that support the cross-border QRIS scheme by scanning the QR code via the application.
Meanwhile, on the acquirer side through Toko Netzme, Netzme partner merchants and SMEs can receive payments from Chinese tourists using connected payment applications, including Alipay and UnionPay.
For merchants, the main benefit of this integration is that digital payments from Chinese tourists can be directly received in rupiah according to the applicable QRIS mechanism.
This implementation also comes amid the expanding use of QRIS in Indonesia. Bank Indonesia records that QRIS acceptance has reached 44 million merchants and 61.7 million users up to the first quarter of 2026.
In the same period, inbound QRIS transactions reached 2.79 million transactions worth Rp 713.59 billion, while outbound transactions reached 737,647 transactions worth Rp 249.26 billion.
“The growth of QRIS shows that digital payments are no longer just an additional facility, but a main infrastructure for business actors,” Vicky said.
“Netzme’s focus is to ensure that innovations like cross-border QRIS can truly be used in the field by merchants, not stopping as just technology,” he added.
