Jakarta — The Indonesian government has officially expressed deep concern over the deteriorating security situation in the Middle East, which is deemed increasingly alarming and potentially expansive. This stance was adopted after the government received comprehensive reports from various Indonesian diplomatic missions in the region regarding continuously escalating tensions.

In its official statement, the government emphasised that it is “conveying deep concern over the increasing and expanding tensions and their impact in the Middle East”. To defuse the intensifying situation, Indonesia issued a firm call to the parties directly engaged in armed conflict to immediately cease their military operations.

“The Indonesian government calls on the United States and Israel to halt attacks against Iran,” stated the official statement from the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on X (formerly Twitter) on Monday, cited Tuesday (10 March 2026). “And calls on Iran to cease attacks targeting neighbouring countries in the region, including the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Oman, Bahrain, Kuwait and Jordan,” it added.

This diplomatic step is based on Indonesia’s position which upholds the supremacy of international law in relations between nations. Indonesia believes that respect for sovereignty is a key factor in preventing greater destruction in the region.

“Indonesia reiterates the obligation of all parties to uphold the principles of international law, particularly regarding the prohibition on the use of force against the sovereignty and territorial integrity of nations,” the ministry stated.

Furthermore, the government has urged all parties to set aside military ego and return to the negotiation table before the conflict reaches an irreversible point. This de-escalation effort is considered urgent to preserve global political and economic stability threatened by turmoil in the Middle East.

“Indonesia encourages all parties to exercise maximum restraint, de-escalate tensions, and return to the negotiation table through dialogue and diplomacy.”

Alongside efforts at the global diplomatic level, the government is also focused on protecting Indonesian nationals (WNI) located in conflict zones. The government ensures that the safety of its citizens remains a priority amid current security uncertainties.

“The Indonesian government continues to closely monitor the impact of the conflict on Indonesian nationals in the region and has prepared contingency measures if conditions require repatriation from various countries,” the official statement concluded.
